Where is the exhibition located? The exhibition is located at 218 West 57th Street between Broadway 7th Avenue.

What is the best way to get to the exhibition? The closest subway stops are Columbus Circle/59th St (A, B, C, D, 1, 2 trains), 57th St 7th Ave (N, Q, R trains), 57th St 6th Ave (F train), 53rd St 5th Ave (E, M trains).

What are the hours of operation? The exhibition is open Sunday through Thursday from 10am to 6:30 pm (last entry at 6:00pm ), and on Fridays and Saturdays 10am to 8pm (last entry at 7:30pm ). Occasional earlier closing times are possible due to private events.

Will the exhibition be open every day? See the following dates for changes to our regular operating hours. Last ticket sold one hour before closing.

How long does it take to go through the exhibition? Most guests will spend between 60 and 90 minutes exploring the exhibition. Guests are welcome to stay for as long or as little as they would like during hours of operation.

What is the difference between the General Admission and the Daily VIP Ticket?

The Daily VIP ticket allows guests to visit the exhibition on the selected date of visit at any time during normal operating hours. The ticket also includes a complimentary multi-media device with behind the scenes videos which is not included with the general admission ticket.

Is coat check available? Complimentary coat check is available.

Is there a restaurant at the exhibition? There is no restaurant at the exhibition, but there are many located in the near vicinity.

Is there an exhibition shop? Yes, there is a shop featuring Downton Abbey themed merchandise available for purchase.

Can I rent space at the exhibition for a private event? Guests interested in learning more about hosting a corporate or social event can click here .

Is the exhibition appropriate for children? What is the age recommendation? Downton Abbey fans of all ages are welcome. Parents and caregivers can make the best judgment about their children’s interest and ability to enjoy visiting. All children ages 4 and up need a ticket.

Why do I have to choose a time to enter the exhibition? Admission is timed-entry where your ticket is for a specific time slot and you may enter anywhere during the 30 minutes after the stated time. For example: a 10:00am ticket gives entry from 10:00am – 10:30am. Please arrive 15 minutes before your time slot. Busy days may involve a short wait to enter. Guests may be required to wait outside of the venue before entering, although our docents will do their best to admit guests in a timely fashion. Please dress appropriately for the weather.

What if I arrive after my time slot? The box office will do their best to accommodate you into the next available time slot. Due to high demand that time slot might not be immediately and you may have to wait until later in the day.

Will cast members be at the exhibition? No, cast members will not be at the exhibition but some of their show costumes will be.

Can I take photos inside the exhibition? Yes. No video recording is allowed.

Can the exhibition accommodate guests who require special access? The exhibition is fully accessible for the mobility impaired. A printed set of captions for video content is available upon request.

Can I take food or beverages into the exhibition? Food and drink is not allowed in the exhibition.

A major change from AACR2 is the introduction of three MARC fields: content type, media type, and carrier type, which go in fields 336, 337, and 338, respectively. These replace the information that in AACR2 was contained in the general material designator (GMD), which went in the “$h” subfield of MARC field 245. The GMD was considered imprecise and will no longer be in use in RDA records. A description of the three new fields follows.

Content type (field 336) is “a categorization reflecting the fundamental form of communication in which the content is expressed and the human sense through which it is intended to be perceived” (RDA Got that? . (The terms are also listed in the RDA Toolkit.) These include terms such as “performed music,” “spoken word,” “text,” and “two-dimensional moving image.” This is a closed list, and catalogers should not use terms that are not on the list.

Media type (field 337) is “a categorization reflecting the general type of intermediation device required to view, play, run, etc., the content of a resource” (RDA (Note that content type is in chapter 6 of RDA because it describes expressions; media type is in chapter 3 because it describes manifestations.) Basically, media type tells you what you need to do to access the content of the resource. If you have only to cast your eyes upon it, it is “unmediated.” Otherwise, it may be “audio,” “computer,” “video,” etc. The list of 10 prescribed terms can be found here: . Again, this is a closed list.

Carrier type (field 338) is “a categorization reflecting the format of the storage medium and housing of a carrier in combination with the type of intermediation device required to view, play, run, etc., the content of a resource” (RDA Chris Oliver adds that “[c]arrier types are closely correlated with media types and can be considered as the next level of granularity for the media types” (53). For example, a resource with media type “audio” might have carrier type of “audio disc” or “audiocassette.” A resource with media type “video” might have carrier type “videocassette” or “videodisc.” The (long) list of possible carrier types can be found here: . Again, it’s a closed list.

All three fields are repeatable. For example, a CD may be able to be played in an audio device as well as a computer, so it might be given two media types: “audio” and “computer.”
